Founder and Artistic Director of The Calgary Girls Choir

Elaine Quilichini is recognized internationally for her exceptional musicianship and distinguished work with choral ensembles.  She is the founder of the Calgary Girls Choir, one of Canada's most dynamic and award-winning ensembles.  In 2003 Ms. Quilichini made her debut as maestro at Carnegie Hall.  She is highly sought after as guest conductor and has twice conducted the OAKE National Honors Choir.  Last season she conducted the  High School Honor Choir celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Saskatchewan Music Educators’ Association, was Guest Conductor of the High School Honor Choir at the Asian Pacific Activities Conference in Osaka, Japan, and Guest Conductor of the Wisconsin All-State Honor Choir.  In 2010 she will direct the Eastern and Northern division ACDA Children's Honors Choirs.   Ms. Quilichini is also known for her high quality choral series with Alliance Music Publishing.

About our Festival:   This is a wonderful opportunity for children in grades 4-6 to work with an accomplished guest conductor in a Kodály-inspired rehearsal setting.  This festival is open to VOKE members only, and teachers may bring up to 24 students.  The choir is limited to 150 students in grades K-6.

 Who is Eligible:  Singers must be enrolled in Kodály-based choral or music instruction, sing consistently in tune with good tone quality, exhibit strong part-singing skills, and exhibits good citizenship.

Cost:  $30 per student.  This covers snacks and water bottles at the festival,  music octavos,  and salaries for the conductor and accompanist.

 Registration materials will be available here by early September.  All materials must be received by October 9, 2009.
